I've been wanting to use that title for a while now. I cannot tell you how many blog posts I have written in my mind and have had no time to actually post them. Then I was like, well, you can't post about that until you post about this, and that would delay me even more. So hey, I'm back and this post is going to be all over the place, so sit tight k?
This fall has been very overwhelming. Last time here, I was pretty worried that I would end up losing my job and I thank everyone for their blessings and well wishes for the Symphony. They sure helped because, we ended up signing a contract and for the most part feel somewhat secure that I have a job to go to (almost) everyday. Now here comes my PSA: If you are local and love classical music, please come and support the Symphony. If you want your kids to be able to grow up with classical music, a top-rate orchestra, please come to a concert or two (or five or twelve). We definitely would appreciate it. If you aren't local but are a classical music lover, please please please support your local orchestras and other arts organizations. ok. PSA done.
Anyway, let's get back to the overwhelming Fall, shall we? Well once I knew I had a job, the craziness began. Somehow this year is so much harder to get everything done. (Um, hello? Toddler in the house!!) Between mothering, performing, (which supposedly also means practicing), teaching, housewifing, wifing, being an editor to a pretty awesome online magazine (and wearing all the hats that go along with that job), knitting, it's just been crazy. One day I want to quit my job and be a WAHM. The next, I want to tear my hair out because Little Miss Sunshine wants to party every night til midnight or later.
Typical complaints from a mother, right?
Yeah, so I am trying to just go with the flow and see where that takes us.
The one thing I'm bummed about the most lately is not having a lot of time to work on the designs that are floating around my head. I get frustrated, and most of the time I'm too tired to do anything constructive like that and heaven forbid do math! So I am trying to be patient and also work on focusing my "free"time better. I've had a couple quotes going through my mind that keep me going, always striving to "do better", live the life I want and all that good stuff.
"We cannot become what we need to be by remaining what we are"
"Sometimes, to be the superwoman you were meant to be, you have to let go of the one you were."
I tend to be somewhat extreme about making changes (like oh btw, back in August I cut Little Miss off from nursing cold turkey and it was exactly the right thing for us to do, yay!), and then when things backfire I get so down on myself. But those above quotes make me want to think smaller, or rather, more simply and to make changes in my life that are actually do-able. I will benefit greatly in the end, I am sure of it.
Sorry, I'm rambling, but it's my blog and I can ramble if I want....
So anyway. I am going to try to be back here to visit more often, but I am not going to beat myself up if I don't visit for another month.
What else has been going on here? Oh yeah, last month Satya turned TWO and I turned THIRTY-FIVE.
Oh hey, I am going to have a DESTASH WEEKEND this weekend. Maybe we can all think of it as pity retail therapy for those who can't be at Rhinebeck? The plan right now (as I'm sure it will change heh) is to feature different yarns for sale by category (don't know what those are yet) each day from Fri through Sun and then on Monday do whatever's left. Something like that. All I know is that SOCK YARN will be first, on Friday. So tell your friends, enable your enemies. Whoever. I just want a lot of this yarn outta here!
Lastly, and then I need to go to bed, I wanted to do a shout out to some Indie Dyers that I really really love. I just had a not-so-pleasant experience with an independent yarn dyer (who I've decided shall remain nameless). I placed an order (without being in a hurry, had no need for the yarn, just wanted to try them out, you know?) on August 5th. They were awfully busy and I had no problem waiting for the yarn, since I wasn't in a hurry. Well, a month passed. I emailed. The response I got, oh there's a delay because we wanted to get your order "just right", but it will be sent out next week. Hrmmm. Three weeks later, I sent another kind email and I basically got the same response. I found all of this quite odd, since I ordered two skeins of yarn that were supposedly "in stock". So really, my order should've been ready the day I ordered it! I emailed them two weeks ago and got THE SAME RESPONSE. And these were not form emails. I finally started to get a bit pissy and said if I didn't get the yarn by the end of the following week (which was last week), I wanted a refund. As of Friday, no yarn. So I went and looked up their Ravelry group and saw that someone else had started a thread about the same situation. I was glad to not start a thread, but I did voice my opinion, and still in a kind manner (imho). Well, interestingly enough, that thread was locked and archived. I then sent a pissy email (I could've been much pissier actually) saying that I wanted a refund. Within 10 minutes of sending that email, I get an email saying that I should've received shipping notification the day before. Of course, I didn't. What a shock. She said that I should've received the yarn by today at the latest. Lo and behold, it arrived. And you know what? NOT IMPRESSED. AT ALL. It had been so long that I forgot what yarn I had bought, and I thought I had ordered a different one than what came, so I was doubly disappointed. I plan to keep one, because I think it will work up into something nice for Satya, but I'm selling the other. Everyone said, oh it will totally be worth the wait. The colorways are just amazing. Heh. Not worth the wait, and I sure told them that. Anyway, now I would like to do a shout out to those Indie Dyers that I LOVE and appreciate their work, customer service and colorways!
A Verb for Keeping Warm (my newest obsession)
I am pretty sure with these talented ladies, my wallet will never be full :)
Ok, well, I think I've rambled on plenty for one evening. I must go to sleep so I can get up and take Satya to her Waldorf class. She goes one day a week and LOVES it!
So come on back on Friday to see some lovely sock yarn for sale!
Leave me a comment and tell me how you've been. I'd love to hear from you! xo
